REVIEW : OVEREXPOSED - MAROON 5

Jam-packed with collection of indisputable, anthem-centric melodies;

“Overexposed,” the fourth album by the American pop rock band Maroon 5 after the temperate success of their third album Hands All Over (2010) and well ahead  by the immense success of re-release single "Moves like Jagger" with features of dance-pop disco, mostly pop-oriented tracks, joined with pop rock, and reggae sounds raised a few concerns to some who would had said that Maroon 5’s alternate-rock licks are a far-flung from the direction the band has taken since hitting the pop's big leagues.

"Overexposed," is said to had given the band's new pop-centric direction. While plenty have already howled profanely over the changes on "Overexposed" and, be deserving of or not, there's a universal agreement that it's a jump into a new terrain of music for Adam Levine and his companions.

Irrespective of how fans retort to the band's creative facelift (accompanying album artwork is a colourful collage of illustrations apparently said to be inspired by the likes of Picasso and a variety of contemporary cartoonists with its title; a smirking insinuation to Levine's ubiquity), "Overexposed" promises to mark a significant point in Maroon 5's already highly-successful in terms of musical career.

Track List :

"One More Night"
"Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)"
"Daylight"
"Lucky Strike"
"The Man Who Never Lied"
"Love Somebody"
"Ladykiller"
"Fortune Teller"
"Sad"
"Tickets"
"Doin’ Dirt"
"Beautiful Goodbye"

One More Night - the album begins with its second official single, “One More Night" was defined as "enticing" and a "sensual reggae jam, having a mixture of pop, rock and reggae. Lyrically, it’s about not getting together with or being able to straighten out himself from his love interest where Levine is hoping he only stays with her just "One More Night".

Payphone ft. Wiz Khalifa - shifts from indecisiveness to heartbreak of Levine's tone, Maroon 5 conscripts the help of rapper Wiz Khalifa ("Black and Yellow") for a track that's not distant off from "She Will Be Loved" and "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" was described as "emphatic”. Lyrically, it searches the way a relationship used to be and the way they no longer are. Musically, it is a mid-tempo ballad, with a slight of hip hop influence (brought by Wiz Khalifa). The official video is not to be missed if you ever wonder how Adam Levine might be like in a "Die Another Day" James Bond-sequel action role, or just check this out:

Beautiful Goodbye - my favourite of the twelve, backing off from the urban club-friendly feelings and offered an old (ok, it maybe not that old) good-natured track as a closing statement which is likely to leave a deep impression on pop rockers and fans, while it was described as a "rhythmic ballad." It's an acoustic ode that's bittersweet, yet eventually positive one, and that everyone one could have found refuge on any of Maroon 5's previous records (in this case, it’s "She Will Be Love" for me). Although, Maroon 5 had not release the official Music Video for "Beautiful Goodbye" (don't know if they will), I will still be content by just listening to the song while of course anticipating on when or how they will put the song...in a Music Video.

Despite the fact that, critics mention an overall averageness, that the Maroon 5 who seized America’s attention has on the face of it lost its purpose through “desperate to sell” tracks on the album.

I personally felt that their efforts to come up with tracks or even album to topped their previous tracks and album should be admired, that to take such a large leap from their “comfort zone” (I would much prefer alternate rock, that is what gotten me into them at the first place with “This Love” as the track) and to try on new stuffs while struggling to maintain their identity (which is to maintain the old crowd while reaching out to new supporter of the band). Credits should be given to Adam Levine as well; I mean he could have been the next Justin Timberlake by breaking out from the band for a solo career but he still stays on.

All in all, “Overexposed” introduce us to a new element that the band is heading to that by breaking away from the conventional type of genre of music and to show us that they are capable of something else which is different whilst always bringing us back to the frame of mind we had the first time we listen to their songs.

Recommendation        : "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)","Beautiful Goodbye"

REVIEW : WEDDING DRESS - TAEYANG

Wedding Dress ("웨딩드레스," Wedingdeureseu)! A~~*melt~

It’s every girl’s dream to wear one on their special day...

Yes guys. It’s a special dress that a woman wears at her wedding; often long and white. (Most probably custom made)

Yet,

Today we are not talking about this~ No no~ we are talking about this (in case you had not listen to it before):

The digital single "Wedding Dress" released by Taeyang (a member of Big Bang) right after "Where U At" (His 1st digital singles) and incorporated in his first full-length solo album, SOLAR.

While the lyrics and its arrangement were written by Teddy, both collaborated on its music;

Here is the direct translation of the song:

I would argue
Then you would cry
As you’re struggling, I would only get stronger
My heartaches behind these shadows
My face brightens up as I see your smile
I worry that you might notice my feelings
And I get scared that the gap between us would widen
I hold my breath
Then I bite my lips
Then I pray that she would leave his side.
Baby, please don’t hold those hands
Cuz you should be my lady
Please look at me; I've been waiting all this time.

Once the music ends, you’ll be with him forever
I prayed and prayed that this day wouldn't come
The wedding dress you once wore
The wedding dress you once wore
The wedding dress you once wore

You, who never understood my feelings,
Because of that, I ended up despising you
Then I wished a misfortune upon you
But now, my eyes are dry
I try to talk to you but I realized that I'm alone
Every night, I would look back and think
If I already knew the results
Then I close my eyes
Then I dream an endless dream
Then I pray she would leave his side.

Baby, please don’t hold those hands
Cuz you should be my lady
Please look at me; I've been waiting all this time.

Once the music ends, you’ll be with him forever
I prayed and prayed that this day wouldn't come
The wedding dress you once wore
The wedding dress you once wore
The wedding dress you once wore

By all means, be happy with him
So I can move on
Please erase me out of your heart
Although I tried my best but, no oh~

I've been living the lies for too long
Yet, she would look at me and smile.

-END-

Hahaha! I know right; “who will be in their right mind singing this song in a wedding ceremony?!” would be my 1st response to this song. But as I started listen and reviewing it back, it would seem rather logical and yet reasonable for him to do so.

IMHO (In my honest opinion), the song’s rhythm, beats and arrangement (coupled with the dance move); shows how devastated

“My heartaches behind these shadows“

he is chasing after someone whom he love, cherish and sees her to be the one together with him forever and yet belongs to someone no other than his best friend (I assume) .

“Every night, I would look back and think
If I already knew the results”

Flashing back to those happy memories he had with her/them (with his best friend pops up every single time! Talk about timing!)

Thinking about all those occasion that he felt that they are meant to be is heart-breaking to him and

“I prayed and prayed that this day wouldn't come”

Hoped that there is a slightest chance that

“Then I pray she would leave his side.”

And that she will

“Please look at me; I've been waiting all this time.”

That all in all his last recourse is to sing the song at the wedding to let her know his unspoken feeling for her with the knowledge of the inevitable ending that

“Once the music ends, you’ll be with him forever”

And that after she puts on the ring, the line is drawn; and he knows that they won’t be friends any more but just strangers with memories.

Insights?

It hurts (a lot) to love someone and not to be loved in return, but it is more painful to love someone and never find the courage to let that person know how you feel. In this case, it is just too late…

P.S: Dedicate this track review to Lei Mun from Beautiful Things as she requested. Thanks for giving me the chance to write a review on the song...

Till then!

FEAR FACTOR HOUSE

“XXX evidently, fear is not a factor for you”

Words by the host of the American sports stunt/dare reality game show; Fear Factor is what reminded me of the show from my childhood memory (skipping the occasional “I'm Joe Rogan, and this is Fear Factor. The stunts you are about to see were all designed and supervised by trained professionals. They are extremely dangerous and should not be attempted by anyone, anywhere, anytime!”)

Not to mention the fat sum of money for winning the game show, it was one of the most interesting shows in my past historical childhood experience where you are actually getting paid or rewarded for overcoming your fears. How does that sound?

As a child I was always tempted to test and push the limits of what I can do and clearly, the fear of heights is the prevalent fear of life my life!

The fear of heights a.k.a. Acrophobia is an extreme or ridiculous fear of heights which fits to a category of specific phobias or fears, called space and motion anxiety that share both similar etiology (the study of causality, or origination) and options for behaviour.

Consequently, from base jumping, skydiving, to free falling or even a ride on the Ferris wheel will send chills to my body; which seems to be an embarrassment (I felt personally).

Why out of a sudden to write a post on my fear?

Well, ladies and gentleman I present to you

BIRTHDAY HOROSCOPE - 22ND NOVEMBER

Happy Birthday Me! [>.<]!

I’ve been sceptical yet curious of the degree of precision horoscope can be in profiling an individual’s personality and nature. Therefore, I had decided to take this opportunity to explore how accurate these can be and whether it does provide a better understanding to the person’s nature.

Since it’s my birthday today hence November 22nd will be used as the subject of investigation.

In general,

Being a Scorpio born on November 22nd, our most well-known qualities encompass our sensitivity, determination and nurturing nature; always looking out for our friends and family (which explains why we are so in-tune with their needs). These qualities are greatly valued by our loved ones, who have witnessed, on more than one occasion, our willingness to sacrifice for their happiness.

In all aspects of life, we take the same devotion. We will work diligently to accomplish a goal that we feel is worthwhile.

Being the zodiac sign that is fixed with a link to the element, Water is our sign's paired element and as a Scorpio. Water’s influence causes our spirit to bear a resemblance to a furious river, obstinately moving forward.

Likewise, it is water's influence that allows us to be so at ease in abysmal pools of emotion. Embracing water's qualities will allow us to learn from our experiences and grow our empathy. Water does not come without negative influences however; too much indulgence in the emotions can lead to short-temperedness or impulsiveness.

Even though career preferences are one of life's great challenges, we can take shelter in the fact that our natural abilities will render well into numerous career paths.

Our people skills and drive may take us on the path of trade, advertising, public relations or media.
Similarly, our eagerness to helping others may lead us to a career in law or politics. If our creative inclinations are too strong, a career in entertainment may be rewarding, much like Scarlett Johansson and Jamie Lee Curtis, who both share our November 22nd birthday.

To sum up, I find that almost 80-85% of accurateness from the above description (excluding the part of choosing a career which I don’t know yet) and thus can only conclude that there is a certain fact no doubt it is quite accurate; There is still room for hesitation of whether it can be used as an instrument for personality profiling.

What to know your horoscope and whether it describes your personality accurately?
Drop me a comment here or send me an email to agentlemansedit@gmail.com together with your corresponding email address and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Till then! Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S: Coincidently, Thanksgiving (observed at the fourth Thursday of November every year; in the United State) falls on today as well!

Wednesday 21 November 2012

THIS WEEK - BLACK FRIDAY!

It's Black Friday this week! (23rd November 2012)

In the United States, the name given to the day after Thanksgiving Day (this Thursday coincidently MY BIRTHDAY!) , Black Friday ; described as the busiest shopping day of the year however is not an official holiday but most of them observe this day as a holiday along with Thanksgiving (which is similar to Boxing Day right after Christmas).

Originally, the day was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving (originated from Philly! - Philadelphia)

What excites the ladies on this day is SHOPPING! Black Friday, as the first day after the last major holiday before Christmas marks the official beginning of the Christmas season.

Furthermore, many employers give their employees the day off as part of the Thanksgiving break weekend, increasing the prospective number of shoppers and in order to take advantage of this, nearly all retailers in the country, big and small, offer various sales. (It’s your call!)

In modern years, it is seen retailers extend beyond normal hours in order to retain an edge, or to just keep up with the competition. Such hours may include opening as early as 12:00 am or remaining open overnight on Thanksgiving Day and beginning sales prices at midnight.

Historically, it was common for Black Friday sales to extend throughout the following weekend.

However, this practice has mostly disappeared in recent years, perhaps because of an effort by retailers to create a greater sense of urgency.

So what are you waiting for? go grab yourself a little something that you wanted for Christmas and might as well do some Christmas shopping while you’re at it (since Christmas is coming right around the corner).

Till then!
Cheers! And Happy BLACK FRIDAY!
