THIS WEEK - BLACK FRIDAY!

It's Black Friday this week! (23rd November 2012)

In the United States, the name given to the day after Thanksgiving Day (this Thursday coincidently MY BIRTHDAY!) , Black Friday ; described as the busiest shopping day of the year however is not an official holiday but most of them observe this day as a holiday along with Thanksgiving (which is similar to Boxing Day right after Christmas).

Originally, the day was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving (originated from Philly! - Philadelphia)

What excites the ladies on this day is SHOPPING! Black Friday, as the first day after the last major holiday before Christmas marks the official beginning of the Christmas season.

Furthermore, many employers give their employees the day off as part of the Thanksgiving break weekend, increasing the prospective number of shoppers and in order to take advantage of this, nearly all retailers in the country, big and small, offer various sales. (It’s your call!)

In modern years, it is seen retailers extend beyond normal hours in order to retain an edge, or to just keep up with the competition. Such hours may include opening as early as 12:00 am or remaining open overnight on Thanksgiving Day and beginning sales prices at midnight.

Historically, it was common for Black Friday sales to extend throughout the following weekend.

However, this practice has mostly disappeared in recent years, perhaps because of an effort by retailers to create a greater sense of urgency.

So what are you waiting for? go grab yourself a little something that you wanted for Christmas and might as well do some Christmas shopping while you’re at it (since Christmas is coming right around the corner).

Till then!
Cheers! And Happy BLACK FRIDAY!
